In 1981 St. Stephens Hospital decided to reach out to the people in slums of Delhi. One lakh people in Sundar Nagari Slum Project area are provided with preventive, promotive, curative and rehabilative care.
Its Community Health Department provides comprehensive health and development services to over 150,000 underpriviledged people living in urban slums and rural areas, in and around Delhi. The department is accredited for DNB(SPM), a postgraduate programme for doctors(equivalent to MD) under the National Board of Examinations, India.
